VALUATIONS

Hatton Jewels provides jewellery valuations for insurance carried out by a trained valuer on all the items we sell which includes a full description and picture of the item. These are very important for insurance purposes, and you should always try to get a certificate when you purchase jewellery. The value stated on an insurance valuation is based upon the full retail value if the piece had to be replaced.

In addition, Hatton Jewels also provides a valuation service on pieces of jewellery you already own. This is wise for insurance purposes if, for example, you do not have a record of the purchase, because it has been handed down through the family or your previous jewellery valuation is out of date. The service includes a valuation certificate, including any unusual markings, and a digital image taken of the item.

We can also carry out valuations for probate purposes. Probate is the legal process of administering the estate of a deceased person by resolving all claims and distributing the deceased person's property under the valid will. A jewellery probate valuation would give you the current price of the item in question if you wanted to sell it on the current market. The jewellery valuation certificate includes a photograph and description of the item.

We charge a flat fee of £35 for the service, regardless of the number of items, plus 1% of the total value of the pieces submitted for valuation.

A valuation, depending upon the amount of items, can normally be completed within a day. For example, one or two items takes approximately 2 hours to value and 3 to 4 items will take 3 hours. We aim to complete all valuations within 24 hours of submission.

If you would like us to value your jewellery you can make an appointment with one of the members of our staff to come into our London based appointment room. You can make an appointment either by phone 0800 043 3573 or by email info@hattonjewels.com. Alternatively you can send your jewellery in by Royal Mail Special Delivery which covers items up to £2,500.00; we can value the piece and return it to you by the same method.

We also purchase jewellery; therefore if you are interested in selling your jewellery items, please have a look at our buying-in page for more information.

Insuring your Item

If you do not have a valuation certificate, you should keep a record of any valuable jewellery you have, including receipts, and ideally take photographs of the item as well. If there are any unusual markings, such as an engraving, you should also make a note of this.

In the event that an item is lost or stolen, you are much more likely to recover it if you have such documentary evidence. Make sure that you are properly covered for the full value under your policy, and including if you are wearing the item out-and-about.

Please call us on 0800 043 3573 or email us at info@hattonjewels.com to book an appointment or contact us for more information about our valuation service.
