These are clearly very important for insurance purposes, and you should always try to get a certificate when you purchase jewellery. In addition, Hatton Jewels can also arrange to have a piece you already own valued. This is wise for insurance purposes if, for example, you do not have a record of the purchase, because it has been handed down through the family. The service includes a valuation certificate, including any unusual markings, and a digital image taken of the item. Insuring your ItemIf you do not have a valuation certificate, you should keep a record of any valuable jewellery you have, including receipts, and ideally take photographs of the item as well. If there are any unusual markings, such as an engravement, you should also make a note of this. In the event that an item is lost or stolen, you are much more likely to recover it if you have such documentary evidence. Make sure that you are properly covered for the full value under your policy, and including if you are wearing the item out-and-about.
