How to care for diamond eternity rings

Tuesday, 3 April 2012  |  Admin

It is often said that a diamond eternity rings never quite sparkles the way it did in the jewellery case when it caught your eye. This is only true, however, if you aren’t aware, or haven’t been instructed on how to properly care for it. It only takes a few moments to restore your beautiful diamond ring back to its former glory.

There are a number of different tried and tested methods that can be used to achieve that sparkle again, the first, and most simple, being soap and water. Use a bowl of warm water and add a small amount of soap. Try to ensure that the soap used contains as little as possible in terms of dyes and perfumes as they could be harmful to the eternity ring in question. Once you have added the soap, gently swirl the ring around the water in order to loosen up any dirt that may have been building up over time. A soft jewellery brush, or alternatively, a soft toothbrush, will help get deeper below the settings and allow you to remove even more. Once you are happy that debris has been removed, rinse with warm water and pat dry.

If warm, soapy water is not the desired method for keeping your eternity ring looking as good as new, there are several alternative options. The next being a jewellery cleaning cloth, a lint free cloth that is specially designed to keep your diamond eternity ring shining. The good thing about these cloths is they are easy to use and can be purchased from most jewellers making them great if you want to freshen your eternity ring up whilst out and about. You do need to be aware, however, that you need to ensure the cloth you use is suitable for the type of precious metal of your eternity ring. Using the wrong type of cleaning cloth could result in your special eternity ring being damaged.

A third option would be a liquid jewellery cleaner that has been specially formulated with a variety of chemicals that will act to remove any dirt and grime that has built up whilst also polishing the precious metal in your diamond eternity ring. Again, the choice of cleaner needs to be tailored the diamond ring you wish to clean. This is another cost effective way of caring for your special jewellery but care must be taken when handling the solution so as to avoid reactions should you have sensitive skin.

There are many other ways that can be used to maintain the shine of your diamond eternity ring but these methods should not be used to replace a regular professional clean by a licensed jeweller. Regular professional inspections in addition to a good, thorough clean at home will result in your diamond eternity ring sparkling long after it has left the jeweller’s case and found its way on to your finger where it belongs.
