Choosing a Wedding Ring

Hatton Jewels can help you find your perfect wedding band.

A wedding band represents an unbroken promise of love and commitment and is an important part of planning your special day.

Purchasing your wedding band can be far simpler than finding your perfect engagment ring.  When choosing your wedding band it is important to consider several aspects, for example  metal, style width and finish.  You may also consider engraving your rings with a personal inscription.

What type of metal should you choose for your wedding ring?

The wedding bands you choose will be one of the most treasured pieces from your wedding day.  It is important that you select a wedding band that is timeless and of high quality.  Many couples choose the metal of their bands by matching it with their engagment ring, however there are no fixed rules and it is entirely personal preference.

The most traditional metal used to craft  a weddings band is Gold, which comes in three different colours  yellow, white and rose.  It is also available in several different  qualities, 14ct, 18ct and finally 24ct, which contains the most pure gold but is also the softest .  The recommended quality of gold for wedding bands is 18ct  which contains 75% pure gold and is the most practical for every day wear.

Platinum is also a popular choice.  It is a harder and more durable metal, which is reflected in the price.  The most common quality of platinum used is 95% pure which is naturally very white in colour.  This makes it ideal for daily wear and a contemperary choice for setting diamonds and gem stones.

Wedding Ring Widths

Wedding rings are available in many different millimetre widths. We offer wedding bands in 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7mm.

Ladies wedding bands are often chosen to compliment the engagement ring in a similar width although it is entirely personal preference. Whilst mens wedding bands are generally wider to suit the proportion of their naturally broader hands.

Choosing Your Wedding Ring Weight

The weight of your wedding ring is also an important factor. We offer three different weights for the majority of our plain wedding bands. Light weight being the shallowest depth of wedding band at 1.3mm approx, Medium Weight with a depth of 1.7mm approx and the heavy weight being 2.1mm approx in depth.

Personalising your wedding rings

There are several ways to make your wedding rings unique and even more personal to you. You can choose to have your rings highly polished or matt finished. There is also the option of engraving your band with your own personal message. If you have a particular request that we have not mentioned please do not hesitate to contact us.
