Beautifully Bizarre Wedding Stories!
Marriage is a lifelong commitment between two people. It’s common to hear of stories of couples powering through the adversity, childhood friends tying the knot, and people from very different walks of life that get together and exchange diamond wedding rings with each other.
And then there are the strange stories. These are just a few of the most bizarre marriage-related stories out there, and make no mistake, there’s a lot more where these came from!
Into the Jaws of love
There are people who are natural thrill-seekers. They seek to put adventure as the center of their lives. And when these kinds of people get together, things take a turn for the exciting fairly quickly. Two diving enthusiasts decided the best way to tie the knot was to take their gear and do it underwater. And no, it wasn’t just in a typical dive spot; April Pignataro and Michael Curry decided to do it at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, New York, in the park’s shark tank. Protected only by a shark cage, the couple exchanged vows while various sharks circled around them. The officiant understandably opted to stay out of the water and hold the rites via radio transmitter.
Narcissism at its oddest
Some people really love to admire themselves. It has become so much of a serious mental disorder that psychologists have attached a name to it. At the very least, they only seem to look at their reflections or photos a little too much, and not go anywhere beyond that. Except for this man. Liu Ye married a cutboard-and-female cutout of himself back in 2007. While this has already filled the weird quota for one story, his reasoning for marrying himself takes the cake: it was an expression of his ‘dissatisfaction with reality’.
Don’t drink and say vows
The old adage goes, ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’. It may be a subtle nod to most of the craziest one can expect on the Strip, but some have accepted it to refer to the infamous drunk weddings that happen on a seemingly regular basis if pop culture is to be believed. On a somewhat related note, tying the knot while drunk may sound like a recipe for disaster, but when done with your actual fiancée, things just get too awkward. An officiant related a story of how, in the mad search for the missing groom and his groomsmen who were missing at the chapel, he found them inebriated at a nearby bar. The poor groom was too drunk to stand and take his vows that the officiant refused to go with the full ceremony. He thankfully passed out on his first dance with his wife, but he’ll have a hard time living this incident down.
Undying devotion
There are many couples who are so in love with each other that they claim that they will love them even after their lives are through. This may be a rather cheesy line for some, but for this man, it’s quite literal. Thai telly producer Chadil Deffy and Ann Kamsuk have been together for a decade, but they failed to settle down because Deffy chose to focus on work. Unfortunately, Kamsuk died in January 2012 after a car accident. The grief-stricken Deffy then resolved to make good on his mistake by holding a wedding ceremony on the last day of his girlfriend’s wake. He told people later that the marriage was the result of a ‘mistake that we cannot go back in time to correct’.
The world is full of colorful, weird, and heartwarming stories about marriages. Isn’t it high time that you got started on your own ‘Happy Ever After’ story?
