Where did your journey into jewellery begin?
"Unsurprisingly, I have always loved jewellery and anything with a sparkle. When I started working, I was over the moon to get my first job at a local jeweller at the age of 15. As the most junior member of the team, I got a real idea of the everyday preparations and behind-the-scenes work that goes into making jewellery and providing customers with lasting experiences. After college, I started gaining industry accreditations from the Institute of Registered Valuers, a GIA Diamond Graduate certification, and gemstone accreditations from GIA and GEM-A. Over the past 14 years, my love for jewellery has not faded."
What do you specialise in?
"I specialise in the valuation and appraisal of fine jewellery, with knowledge in antique jewellery, natural pearls, fine coloured stones, and old cut Diamonds. My work involves carefully assessing the quality, authenticity, and value of various pieces, from contemporary designs to antique treasures. In addition to standard appraisals, I also provide expert opinions within legal contexts, assisting with cases that require detailed and accurate jewellery evaluations."
Do you have any favourite items of jewellery?
Do you have a favourite piece you’ve valued?
"Over the years, I’ve come across many memorable pieces, but it’s really the stories and histories behind them that make them stand out for me. I once had the privilege of examining a collection commissioned and owned by Ernest Hemingway, which included two particularly rare and ornate bracelets. The entire collection was stunning, and learning about its history was absolutely fascinating."
Tell us something about yourself...
"Outside of work I adore ice skating and have recently found a love for bouldering, although neither of which I have mastered the art of by any stretch of the imagination, but still thoroughly enjoy throwing myself into nonetheless! My interview also can't go without mentioning my love for my gorgeous Labrador Fergus and my feisty but adorable cat Bella, both of which have become common talk of the Hatton Jewels office!"
