Big isn’t always best!
Now this is something you wont hear said very often, especially when it comes to choosing Diamonds. Yes, size does matter but should not come at the sacrifice of quality in the stone and a Diamond that has good colour, clarity and cut can usually outshine a larger Diamond of lower quality in comparison.
Is certificate important?
A Diamond grading report, often referred to as a certificate, is an independent assessment and opinion of the Diamonds grading characteristics. It is not a guarantee that a Diamond is high quality and a Diamond that does not have a grading report does not mean it is a lesser quality of stone. Diamonds of all sizes and qualities can have a report with them, just as Diamonds of all sizes and qualities don’t necessarily have a report. What is most important is the Diamonds appearance when viewed in person. Does it sparkle, does it have fire and appeal when viewed with the naked eye?
What design of ring should I choose?
With the vast number of designs and styles of rings on the market it can be hard to choose a shape of Diamond and design of ring that is right for you. As everyone has there own individual styles and tastes this can become a tricky decision to make, especially if your partner has not already been dropping those all important hints and sending pictures of pieces they frequently see. Our advice would be to take some mental notes of the sorts of pieces they wear, do they like white, rose or yellow gold? Do they go for styles with multiple sparkly stones or more classic traditional designs? Have they commented on a friends ring or recently publicised celebrity engagement? All these help in being able to steer you towards a style of ring and shape of Diamond that would suit your partner as much as they suit you.
How much should I spend on the ring?
The ring you chose should not only be tailored to your partners style and taste but should really represent the lifestyle and comfort of the person wearing it. The beauty of being able to design and bespoke make any style of ring also means that a ring can be tailored to suit any budget too, so choose a budget you are most comfortable spending and your partner will be most comfortable wearing.
Where should you go to buy your ring?
Well this is the easiest one of all, you should come to us!
But in all seriousness, you should seek out a company that is knowledgeable in the pieces they create and sell. A big shiny high street shop does not guarantee you will be getting the best quality pieces available or at all the best value for money. Research a company easily by checking out there online independent reviews and take a look at their social media or website to view examples of previous pieces they have created themselves.
Your jeweller should be able to knowledgably talk you through the Diamonds or coloured Gemstones you chose and also the design process and making of the ring. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about anything you are unsure of so that you feel comfortable and confident that you are choosing the right ring for you. Sales gimmicks like instant discounts, service packages and insurance offers are something you will pay for in the price of your ring and the over heads of that company has to account for, so don’t be lead with what you are told you are ‘getting off’ the price or add-on’s ‘at no extra cost’. The ring is the most important part of this purchase so keep focused on what will be the piece you are creating to enjoy and cherish together as a couple.
