Thrown by the iconic global Editorial Director and Editor In chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, the annual soirée serves as the opening celebration for the Institute's Fashion Exhibit. With it's meticulous guest list inviting around 600 stars of young creatives and industry personalities, it provides the perfect opportunity for celebrities to showcase their extravagant looks on the red carpet as they all fight for their place to be the best dressed. With this years theme announced as ‘White tie, inspired by the style and culture of the Gilded Age in New York.’ There was no denying we would expect floor sweeping gowns, and luxurious jewels to accompany their custom made designer fits.

With each attendee asked to interpret the theme as they wish, it encourages them to express themselves through their highly finalized extravogant looks. Co-hosting this year’s met gala with her husband Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively is notorious for her fabulous outfits, and this year she certainty didn’t disappoint. Wearing Atelier Versace and jewels by Lorraine Schwartz, the princess style dress was inspired by the statue of Liberty, as she said “Instead of looking to fashion to influence the dress, I looked to New York City architecture and classic buildings”. She stunned the audience with a transformation as her assistants unwrapped her chunky bow, revealing underneath a rose gold and aqua blue gown, simulating the oxidization process of the statue going from copper to blue.
