The Staying Power of Rose Gold
Rose gold has been increasing in popularity for a number of
years but 2017 felt like its biggest year yet. Everywhere we looked we saw Rose
Gold, from tech to fashion to home appliances... but is it just a fad or will
it last?
Rose gold jewellery has cropped up in popularity throughout
the centuries, first appearing in the nineteenth century in Russia and so, it
was originally named Russian Gold. It became popular again in the mid-Victorian
era when pink was linked to romance, a very on-trend theme at the time. The
most notable period in history is the 1920’s when, during the war period, the
government banned the use of platinum amongst civilians and so Rose Gold
started to be used again, becoming a popular alternative. It was also at this
time that Cartier released a signature piece of jewellery called the Trinity
Band which was made up of three smaller bands in Rose Gold, Yellow Gold and
White Gold.
So why is it back in
trend now?
Recent world affairs have led to the feminist movement being
reinvigorated and within that trend; many are reclaiming feminine colours, with
light pinks often being referred to as ‘Millennial Pink’; a colour that can be
spotted in almost all major Instagrammers pages.
The wildly popular Instagrammer and YouTuber, Lily Pebbles
got her and, her now, husband’s wedding bands made by Hatton Jewels for which
she chose Rose Gold and her husband chose the Trinity Band style.
Lily Pebbles says in her Instagram post; ‘We are so excited
to have our wedding rings! The wedding isn't for a while yet but we wanted to
design our own rings and @hattonjewels made that happen! Rich has gone for a
Russian style wedding ring & I designed a delicate double wire style ring
in Rose Gold. Can't wait to wear it!’
As well as Rose Gold being on-trend, Rose Gold rings have
the added benefit of creating a soft glow on your hands rather than the more
harsh Yellow Gold, this is great for all skin tones and different aged hands.
Due to its historical roots, Rose Gold has a timeless look about it, giving it
an antique feel (also very on trend) and so we don’t see the popularity of rose
gold jewellery disappearing anytime soon!
